The first depth finder

A lot of people are not aware of the history of the first depth finder. I've heard this story many times and assume it is all true. Buck was the first one to make a depth finder for fishing. It was a "needle" type. Carl Lowrance would stop by Buck's Baits on occasion. Buck showed Carl the depth finder he had made. Carl was very intrigued and went on to build his own (a flasher style unit). Which later turned into the "green box" that took off like crazy. Hence Lowrance electronics was born. I believe the below needle depth finder was one of the first ones made or sold. Does anyone have any more info on this?
