How much line for trolling
I have been given a collection of over 100 spoonplugs with a list of the size and how deep they troll but it does not show how much line to let out and what speed to troll at. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: How much line for trolling
I have always used the ever popular "drop till you bump technique" And from there you can adjust accordingly.
The reason there is no listing is that between NOBO Braid and Wire and speed there are just to many variables.

This guideline is from Chase Klinesteker’s website. He has wire lengths listed also at the link if interested. It will get you in the ball park, but “dump til you bump” like Hal mentioned is another good one. Won’t take long with a little time on the water.

Re: How much line for trolling
Sorry man I jus notice this was a 2 part question. Speed is dictated by water temps early season cool water 1.5- 2.5 mphGawaterdog wrote: Sat Jul 29, 2023 6:46 pm I have been given a collection of over 100 spoonplugs with a list of the size and how deep they troll but it does not show how much line to let out and what speed to troll at. as the water warms up speed for Bass Pike and Musky's should in crease. 2 days ago with water temps approaching 85 degrees i was trolling a 100, 700 and JB2 on a 3-way with a 4 inch flutter spoon at 4.5- 6 mph. Hooking Bass and Pike on both the down lure and the trailer.

Dude if you don't know this basic spoonplugging knowledge the plugs gifted to you won't do you much good.
You say any help will be appreciated, so do yourself a big favor and go to BUCK'S SPOONPLUGS.COM and buy the educational material as well as the rods and line needed to go with the plugs.
Study and restudy the educational material many times till you know it like second nature.
Then start your on the water training.
GOOD LUCK.
