A Scope setting on modern depth finders

Post by Bink »

Maybe I’m just clueless but I found a setting that really has helped me dial in a newer depth finder. I’m running a helix 9. But lowrance and garmin both have a A Scope setting too.
I read a comment Bales made awhile ago about his flasher “getting nervous” around the breakline. That comment hit me like a ton of bricks bc I knew there was something my helix was missing and I couldn’t put my finger on it until I read Bales comment. After watching endless videos on my unit I saw someone using the A Scope setting….. It blew me away, it was getting nervous by the breakline!!!! Iv been running it the last 10 days and it’s made a huge difference. If you’re use to reading a flasher turn on your A Scope setting and you’ll be very happy

Bink, I have a helix also. Do I need the ice transducer to get the flasher A-Scope. It seems that I don't have the flasher on my unit . I found the A- Scope setting, but I am assuming that it would be used in flasher mode. Or are you using it in 2D or downscan? Thanks Bill.

Bill I use it with my 2D.I haven’t tried the flasher mode. Depending on what software your are running the flasher might only be available in the Ice settings.

I use A scope on my Garmin, and also like that it shows the diameter of the cone on the bottom based on the depth. Helpful for me when mapping and deciding how close I need to run my next pass for Garmin Quickdraw mapping.

Guys, I run Garmin but all of the units offer split screen sonar and you can pick 2x 4 x on zoom and when you do that, one screen stays normal but the other screen will give you more of a bottom look and may not read zero on the top reading but if you are in 20 feet of water, the zoom screen may show the bottom ten feet of water. This zoom look will also show breaklines better. You will see them on the zoom screen but not the normal view unless its a breakline Helen Keller could see if you get my drift. Give that a try one time. John There is always something to learn.
