Walking the pond & looking in the water is good reinforcement of the basics by having a visual confirmation that the Fishing Facts are indeed facts. Sure, it's not the same as being on the water and fishing, especially if you're really good at it, but it is good affirmation that you are on the right track in your thoughts about fish. In the 1st post about this stated how obvious it is that the fish are either in the deep, shallow, or somewhere in between. It's obvious when walking the same edge everyday. So, how about speed? We feed the fish and they know it. How do we know they know it? Because they follow us around begging in a way like your other pets might do. More on that another post. But regarding speed...In this now cold water when presented with food, even though they are basically begging to be fed, they react sluggishly when the food is thrown into the water right in front of their face. They may come up & look at it. Some may pick at it gingerly. Some may take it in, mouth it a bit, & spit it out...and then mouth it again. Others will just swim around near it without a touch. This is in contrast to the warm water conditions when they will come aggressively to grab it before another does...a real "fish boil" at the surface. Yep, cold water = much slower less aggressive; warmer water = faster more aggressive (at least for these species).
